A 4:3 tube with the OFX already on: grille, bloom, phosphor
Tube face 01-hero.jpg 1600 × 1200 · 4:3 · or 01-hero.mp4

The image already on glass. 4:3. Grille or scan structure visible. Not a 16:9 flat overlay. Not VHS tracking.

DaVinci Resolve OFX

A working tube.

Beam, phosphor, mask and glass. Scanlines bloom. Not a tape look.

Flat plate. Then the tube.

Drag the split. Left is the source. Right is CRT on Clean CRT, Amount 1, curvature still at the v1 default of flat unless you raise it.

Same frame through CRT
CRT on 03-tube.jpg 3840 × 2160 · 16:9 · pixel-locked to 02

Same frame, OFX on. Mask and bloom should read at web size. Keep the subject.

Ungraded digital plate, same framing as the tube side
Before 02-flat.jpg 3840 × 2160 · 16:9 · identical camera to 03

Same still as 03-tube.jpg with no OFX. A readable subject. Export both from one playhead.

Flat CRT on

Tubes, not filters.

Twenty presets in the plugin. These six sell the range. Wear and Damage is a separate gate, so you can keep the tube and kill the noise.

Clean CRT preset: structure, no damage
Preset still look-clean.jpg 3840 × 2160 · same plate as the other looks

One locked camera. Swap Preset. Also look-trinitron, look-pvm, look-arcade, look-consumer, look-green.

Beam first. Stripes last.

Other CRT tools draw scanlines. This one has an electron beam, so the line blooms in highlights, phosphors saturate before they clip, and glow is scatter in glass.

Beam

Spot size, scanline height, edge defocus. The raster is the beam, not a repeating overlay.

Phosphor and mask

P22, SMPTE-C, EBU, arcade, P39, amber, P4. Grille, slot, or triad. Pitch in millimetres.

Signal

RGB, component, S-Video, composite, RF. Wear and Damage gates noise, sync, ghosting, crawl.

Inspector, MASTER open. Preset, Tube Resolution, Scanline Depth, Mask Depth. Dark Resolve theme.

Where it earns the slot.

Arcade and PVM first. Consumer TV when the story needs composite.

Arcade 15 kHz CRT look on a game or CG plate
Arcade 11-arcade.jpg 3840 × 2160 · 16:9 · full bleed

Arcade 15 kHz preset. Hot P22. Slot mask. Not a VHS wobble.

15 kHz in the cabinet

240p field. RGB. Drive a little hot. Bloom on the whites.

Broadcast PVM look, tight grille, D65
PVM 12-pvm.jpg 3840 × 2160 · 16:9 · full bleed

PVM / BVM. Component. Grille. Wear at zero. This is the clean tube sell.

A monitor, not a gimmick

Broadcast preset. Amount full. Artifacts off. Proof it is not only a dirty look.

Questions

OS CRT in Resolve. A picture-tube sim: beam, phosphor, mask, glass. Presets from Clean CRT through Trinitron, PVM, arcade, VGA, green and amber mono. Wear and Damage is a separate control.
No. VHS is cassette: tracking, snow, dropout. CRT is the display. Stack them if the story is tape into a set.
v1 realtime is Windows with NVIDIA CUDA. CPU fallback is allowed. macOS Metal is not in v1. OFX needs DaVinci Resolve Studio.
